In Situ 1
2017
One of the most enduring types of artifact along the Chilkoot Trail are shoes and boots. Many are now micro-environments for various plants, lichens and moss. "In Situ" is a term used in archaeology to reference an artifact still situated in its original location. This boot sole is from my personal collection of found objects. I did the hand-embroidery and stumpwork to create the vegetation and also incorporated small amounts of foraged moss and lichen. The piece is mounted on fabric and wood.
