Visually this composition plays with circular spots and holes, repeated in paper wasp combs, seeds, nail heads and giraffe spots. The “environment” the giraffe is hiding in has nothing to do with her natural habitat and yet she is protected by the partial camouflage provided by her spots. Hostile elements of nails and wasp nests create her security. The piece explores the conflicting dimensions of the places we feel “safe.”
